Current St Columba's College parent (and husband of staff member Mrs Rigby) Neil Rigby is attempting to cycle the Mont Blanc Sportive on Saturday 16 July as part of a group fundraising for the River Reeves Foundation along with the charity's founder, River's dad Ben Dunne.

This is reputedly the 'toughest one day sportive in the world' and involves completing 330km and the height of Everest in one day, so all involved are slightly apprehensive! The group have been training for the challenge for more than a year.

River was a member of the band Viola Beach, who tragically all died in a car crash on their first tour in Sweden in 2016. Ben was recently on BBC Breakfast on the sixth anniversary of River's death and you may find the interview quite moving and inspirational: https://youtu.be/DNB2-DNZm5M.

Neil is a close friend of Ben from his University days and they are hoping to raise £50,000 to support bursaries for a new education initiative: the RNCM Young Artists programme.

This is a programme of training and support for young pop musicians aged 11-18 from the North West, run by the Royal Northern College of Music.

Neil says any support would be very gratefully received. You can donate via the group's Go Fund Me page (link is above).
